Art Deco - HSTARC2

Art Deco is --- art decoration? Duh. It mainly focused more on the decoration rather than the architectural style. Must be because of the name.

Art deco is an artistic and design style that originated and began in Paris during the 1920s. It had a great influence the fields of architecture, industrial design, fashions, interior design and many more.

Unlike the previous Art (Nouveau), it did not really make use of different colors and shapes leaning towards the curvilinear but instead went back to linear symmetry. It was, if not all, still about the decorative state itself. What was beautiful to you is what you make and decorate for. It focused much much more on the design rather than the function which was kind impractical for me. However, I do appreciate the beauty made out of it.

What I took notice about Art deco is the fact that it takes previous forms and ideas from the different styles and even drew inspirations from the Egyptian and Aztec forms of designs and structure. The use of shark skins and zebra skins were also seen. Different not usually used materials like chrome, Bakelite and lacquer was used. Even the shapes got out of hand, but still in linear form or geometric curved form, into the making of the motifs that are shaped like chevron and sunbursts. It sure was interesting to analyze and see how it would translate into Art deco. For me that fact that the art was so fancy and passionately used for this style, it made it that good from being bad. Everyone was free to express their selves.
