Louis Sullivan - HSTARC2

When we say Louis Sullivan, we say “skyscrapers”, and when we hear “skyscrapers” we think of modernism!

Louis Sullivan, Father of Modernism and Skyscrapers
Louis Sullivan is an American architect. He was known as “father of skyscrapers” and “father of modernism”. Now that’s some big titles right there! From that alone you know that his skills and ideas are beyond others and more inclined toward the future such as the modern skyscrapers he created. He also was the inspiration of the Prairie School and the mentor of another famous architect, FLW.

"It is the pervading law of all things organic, and inorganic, of all things physical and metaphysical, of all things human and all things super-human, of all true manifestations of the head, of the heart, of the soul, that the life is recognizable in its expression, that form ever follows function. This is the law."

He was truly considered as America’s first truly modern architect. What fascinates me about him is that he did not recreate, imitate or reproduced ideas or design but instead he created his own. Original forms and details that was renowned and appreciated by a lot of people. It takes a great amount of skills and courage to do such, and that right there is amazing. I agree with the idea of Louis Sullivan that the exterior should reflect the interior structure along with its interior function. Holds true to the ornaments you put in a building, it should have a function rather than just a decoration.

Louis Sullivan was imitated by other architects and his ideas were stolen, I mean, gave inspiration and formed the foundation for a good student of his.
