Art Nouveau - HSTARC2

It’s hard to say the word after art in this topic. -- Art Nouveau is actually a French term meaning “New Style” or “New Art”. French term, so that’s why.

Art Nouveau was also known as Jugendstil, a German word for “Youth Style”. A name of a magazine, Jugend, which promoted it.

Art nouveau is a not only a style of art but also a philosophy and an architecture. This became popular during the late 1800 in European cities. With the help of Maison de l’Art Nouveau, a Paris art gallery, its popularity greatly increased.

The style of Art nouveau is mainly about nature. It wanted the organic look with the use of floral and plant like looks which would be applied to the structure. The curvilinear forms are very evident and it made use of striking colors which would be very easily looked upon. You can see the asymmetrical shapes, arches and decorated surfaces full of curves and nature like design, plants and floral.

Art nouveau also had some elements from the Baroco period which was furthered and developed in style. Im still not that fond of these kind of designs since too much of those curviness makes me a bit dizzy in design.
