International Style Architecture - HSTARC2

International style architecture is as wide spread and known as its name signifies. Though what I am curious about is that it was name international style though it was only wide spread throughout Europe and America and some other parts, does mean something, in terms of superiority of continents? But anyway having it spread, known and developed in Europe and United states is a factor already to be an international style as it is called.

International style was developed in Europe and United states during the 1920s and 1930s and became dominant especially in the western architectural built of structures during the 20th century.

The style was inspired by simplicity (mechanical) and structure harmony

It follows and the principle of dynamic equilibrium by Mondrian which states that basically the balancing of “unequal but equivalent oppositions” which gives the feeling of “mystical harmony of humanity in the universe.”

The international style is identified by some factors like being rectilinear in form and are only plain, stripped of the useless ornamentations and decorations. You can see the open interior spaces which are enforced with the use of steel, glass and reinforced concrete. Furthermore, it is designed with flat reflective surfaces and continuous windows which give light a priority to light up the structure by the continuous bouncing off the reflection. Basically, the most often color you will see for this style is black and white while the railings are painted in contrast with primary colors. It looks like a set of geometric figures, most evidently boxes and cubes that are put together in harmony and design.

International style features a simple but effective structure for living. I like the idea and intuitive design which gives the one living on it the choice to create the space best fitted for their lifestyle.
